Hybrid harvester a recognized innovation

Logset 12H GTE Hybrid harvester was one of the seven finalists of Energy & Innovation Awards, a competition for innovations arranged during Energy Week in Vaasa, Finland. The winner of the competition was announced yesterday, and the price went to Virta, who has developed an electric vehicle home charging service.

- I’m very proud of the Logset team even though we didn’t win the competition. It is amazing how a company of this size can create an innovation with real impact, says Technical Director Jukka Kivipelto.

The Logset 12H GTE Hybrid harvester is the world’s first hybrid forest machine, launched by Logset in 2016. All the seven competition finalists were given a diploma. The jury consisted of Niklas Wägar from Wärtsilä, Mathias Grädler from Wapice, Jyrki Hirviniemi from VEO, Mikko Pieskä from Vaasan Sähkö, Krish Sankaran from Radical Innovations Group and Anna-Kaisa Valkama from Technoloy Center Merinova.


Hybrid technology in forest machines

With the hybrid system as an integrated part of the machine’s diesel engine, the Logset 12H GTE Hybrid offers a significant increase in power and torque,without increasing engine size.  

As a parallel technology, the hybrid system automatically assists the engine when the harvester needs more power than the engine can provide. Even though the load of the engine and the power needed by the harvester can vary significantly during work cycles, the revs of the engine can be kept at a constant level thanks to the hybrid system. Hybrid technology increases the Logset 12H GTE Hybrid harvester’s working efficiency by 27 %. It also significantly decreases fuel consumption and emissions per harvested cubic meter, making the machine beneficial both to the environment and its user.
